Identity system

The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) exists to educates and engages the public to make our shared landscape heritage more visible, identify its value, and empower its stewards. The current identity of the organization is not very distinguishable among their competitors and often unrecognizable on digital platforms. The goal of the project is to create a new identity system that speaks to the quality of the organization.

Concept

The topographic view of a cultural landscape is usally very geometric  as it is contructed by people, but organic as it lives and coexists with nature. The identity system is designed to capture the uniqueness of the topographic view of the cultural landscapes.

What are Cultural Landscapes?

Cultural Landscapes are landscapes that have been affected, influenced, or shaped by human involvement.

The Typescape System

Using the alphabetic system to construct the topographic view of the landscape by assigning each letter to a shape. When the words are typed out, they will be translated into an image. Here, the topographic view formed by text is referred as Typescape and individual letters are Typescape Letters. Ideally, the system can be built as a program to produce different topographic views determined by input text.

Any text can be translated into Typescape, for example︎

Logomark Ideation

The final mark is made out of the letters TCLF in the topology alphabet system, and the kerning of letters is adjusted based on the grid. As the shapes are connected together, they not only form the topology of the landscape, but also appears to be an abstract form of the actual landscape architecture.
